SEO Superstitions: Penalty for tiny text
Claim: Links or keywords that are in 8 point text (Font Size 1) will be ignored or penalized as "Spam."
Status: Very Dubious
Numerous "experts" caution against putting links or keywords in 8 point text, which they call "tiny text." This seems
to be a very dubious proposition. I have seen newspapers that link to articles with 8 point text. Whole pages are made
in 8 or 9 point text.
Eight point text is perfectly visible at reasonable distances even to people with like
myself who do not have good eyesight.
I have built the popularity of sections of Web sites using repeated links in 8 point text and it seems to work, both
in terms of improved positioning for keywords and in bringing more visitors to the pages. What, for example does a
search engine supposedly do with text that is tagged <FONT SIZE = "2"> but is also tagged with an 8 point or even a 6
point style tag? It might look different in different browsers, and the discrepancy can be due to perfectly innocent
coding errors or editor peculiarities.
