Claim: Metatag text doesn't matter for Search Engine Positioning for a particular keyword.
Status: False
This claim was actually made in those words by an optimization expert. He was trying to make the point that people
need his expert services and can't just make do with optimizing metatags with a keyword. Other reasons for making this
claim: You are selling a Content Management System that doesn't handle metatags, or you are selling Website design
services and don't want to bother with metatags, which are a lot of extra work.
This superstition leads people to believe that search engines ignore the <TITLE> and <Description> tag. The claim is
simply false. Metatag content does matter, and this can be shown by studying the top ten positioned pages for many key
words, as well as by examining comparisons of similar pages that have or do not have metatags properly filled out. The
relation between positioning and use of metatags is not perfect, and metatags are not the only important factor in
determining search engine results positioning, but they are important.
