SEO Superstitions: Frequent changes in page content SEO superstition
Claim: Frequent changes to a Web page help to raise its rank, because search engines like "fresh content."
Status: False
This claim, precisely as stated, is false. Adding new pages to a Web site does help the site. Changing an
existing page just for the sake of changing it, if it is in the top 10 or 20 pages listed for a keyword,
will probably hurt positioning. I have been burned by such changes more than once. If your page is listed in the top 10
for a keyword, be very cautious even about making minor tweaks in optimization, as these are liable to hurt positioning
for that keyword. Don't make changes unrelated to optimization unless you absolutely have to (for example, to show links
to new pages).
