It is claimed, without much proof, that too much optimization will penalize your Web page for a particular
Keyword.
For example, If the keyword is in the anchor text of a link, it is supposedly bad to repeat precisely that text in the
title tag of the link. Likewise, overly high concentrations of key words are though to be used as signals of spamming.
This is almost certainly true for blatant abuse of key phrases, where Google may apply specific
filters. Within reason, I have not found this to be true, however. Of course, if half the words on a page are the keyword, it might cause
your page to be banned, either because someone complains, or because search engines know how to detect such abuse.
Overoptimization is probably penalized selectively for special cases - for example - to protect
against "Google Bombing" by putting the same peculiar phrase in thousands of links to raise the position of a Web page.
These practices may trip a filter that will result in demotion of the page.
